Mechthild Borries-Knopp Mechthild Borries-Knopp studied French and German Literature and Philopsophy in Frankfurt/Main and earned her PhD degree from the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich with a dissertation on Karl Kraus and Heinrich Heine. She has taught more than two decades German Literature and Cultural Studies at the universities of Munich, Mumbai/India and Jakarta/Indonesia, and has published numerous articles on contemporary German writers. She directed various international courses in literature and cultural studies for the Goethe Institutes in Chicago and Munich.

In July 1996 she was entrusted by the board of the Friends of Villa Aurora with the development of the structure and concept of the Berlin office of the Villa Aurora and the leadership of the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles. With her company globalART Cultural Management, she expanded the Berlin office of Villa Aurora Forum Berlin with several transatlantic cultural projects. In 1997 she was elected as executive director to the board, to which she belonged until her retirement in January 2012.

Since February 2012, she focuses exclusively on the promotion of international cultural projects which encourage the encounter and understanding between cultures as well as the expansion of artistic horizons.

Her interest has always been the artists and the arts of all genres, reading and playing music. She plays flute in small chamber music ensembles and has devoted herself for many years to intensive yoga exercises.
